Week 1 Day 1

First, thanks for all the lovely comments I got from yesterday’s post. Yes it was difficult, but it is my reality. Real life isn’t always pretty and I am who I am, take it or leave it. Like me or not. Judge me how you will. It’s still my life.

Yesterday I started the all famous Couch to 5k or better known as the C25k program. I went on their website to print out my schedule and found the COOLEST iphone app. How it works is you choose one of your own playlists from your ipod and it gives you audio alerts of what you need to do next. So in the middle of whatever song you’re listening to a voice comes on and says something like, “get your lazy ass going and run.” Well, actually, there’s a beep and then the voice just says “run,” or “walk” or whatever action needs to be taken. It keeps a counter of the total work out time and also a timer of the segment that you are working on, so you know exactly where you are in the workout. Totally cool and makes keeping track of alternating walking/running easy peasy.

I made it through the Week 1 Day 1 work out pretty easily. 31 minutes total and over 2 miles. As you can tell by my times, I didn’t walk or run very fast. But I did it. I’ve always wanted to be “a runner.” I just hope at 43, it’s not too late.

It's never too late to be a runner. I have read so many articles of people who start running after the age of 50. And 31 minutes of walking for over 2 miles is great!

nope it's never too late I started running at 52 at the urging of my trainer. I was always the kid at school who was horrible at P.E..(Running not me!!).I am now 54 and have competed in 4-5ks and a couple other shorter events.(I love to run now go figure)Am I fast? Nope Iam very slow. But ya know I continue because at my age I can. I feel blessed to be able to where as many want to and physically can't.You will do fine don't put undo pressure on your self just enjoy the experience and take it slow. You are doing great.

I didn't know they had an app that would work with individual play lists! The podcast music for the c25k program wasn't working for me at all, but if I can work it into MY music, it might be worth another try! Thanks!

I want an iphone now even more after hearing that! I downloaded the C25K podcast and it was all techno music so that lasted about 5 minutes. It's never too late to be a runner!

It's never to late. That's how I started running, mind you, I only run for 2 miles without stopping, but before the c25k, I couldn't run 1 minute without losing my breath. If I can do it, so can you. Wish I would have had your app. though. I didn't like the free download on itune. It was some kind of soft goofy music that meant nothing to me. Good luck, and don't give up, it took me over a year to get 2 miles, but I quit several times.
