To be honest, with you and more importantly myself, I haven’t really cared about my weight the last couple months. Well, I guess cared isn’t really true, because I do care. It’s the acting on it that’s been the challenge for me. I haven’t gone totally overboard because my core diet is a good one. I eat pretty well, a healthy portion of veggies, very little sweets and generally lean proteins, but regardless of that, I’ve gained weight over the last 8 weeks or however long it’s been.
My pants are a little tighter. My shirts fit a little more snug. The second chin is coming back. I don’t like it. I need to get back to the exercise because that and moderation on my food intake is key. For me, that’s the combination that works. Exercise and eating in smaller portions.
So, I sit and ask myself, what is it going to take to get me back to being more conscious? What is it going to take to get me motivated again? What’s it going to take to flip that switch in my brain that tells me, no, don’t eat that second piece. Yes, go for that walk. Remember how much you enjoy it?
My advice to myself is this. Make good choices. Think about the consequences. Be kind to yourself. Don’t be overwhelmed by the big picture, break it down into small pieces and acknowledge even the smallest of victories.
What’s your advice to me?

I am with you on this one, I too have lost my way lately. I blame it on summer- I exercise less, stay inside more, and drink way too many of my calories over ice. And every time the hubby wants to perk up my spirits, he takes me out to eat...love him for it, but it's showing on the scale now.
It may be news to you that your not really plugged in to weight loss right now, but it's be real obvious thru your writings for quite some time. Don't play with it...do it or don't.
I'm not the best person to be offering advice but I would say "take care of yourself." Be good to your body and try to feed it fuel, not junk. Baby steps will get you there ...
Your advice is spot on...all I can add is drink a ton of water every day. Good luck with making the changes!
I'm not the poster child for weight loss right now myself but your advice to yourself is great. I told my husband to remind me (gently) how good I feel when I exercise. Doesn't mean I don't want to punch him in the face when he says that but I can't deny it. It's true!
My advice: take your own advice. It's good!
Start...again. Put on the shoes, get to the gym, and promise yourself at least 5 minutes. Than realize how silly it is to only do five minutes. Up it to 15. Know that you can do more. Maybe 30 minutes. On a high level. Push yourself for one workout at a time, one food choice at a time, and don't underestimate what good health means. It means everything. For you and your family.
Also, listen to excellent music...:)
I think sometimes I'm not motivated, not because I don't want to change, but because the big picture is scary and seems impossible. But I find that success builds success.
I would suggest, for the next three days, exercise everyday and cut out the junk. And get yourself a treat of some sort, to limit the deprivation. If you can manage it for three days, it gets easier, and you can start building in more.
That's my advice.
Find an exercise partner, or a class, or a trainer, and make an appointment. Having someone there to hold you accountable makes it less likely that you'll decide to skip a workout.
I am with you on the being kind to yourself. It is sooo imporant to our success, and so often overlooked.
I would add: be patient with yourself, and forgiving towards yourself.
You have to want it more than anything else. When you're at that point, you will know it. I succeeded once I decided not to set arbitrary goals and just be satisfied that the overall trend was downward. It will happen for you!
I have some of the same moments from time to time. Life just gets in the way, doesn't it? Don't worry about anything in the past, just pick a moment and start again :) It's never too late! Good luck!!
I like to try a new lifestyle when I'm in a weight rut. Sample the raw food movement for a week, or only cook vegan recipes with ingredients you've never heard of before. If you transform it into a fun, enlightening challenge, it's not so much about the diet but the new experience. Hope this helps!
Great advice.
Some other help is to either have someone else do it with you, or find something to keep you busy. I do all of my studying while walking on an inclined treadmill now. I'm making it a habit: I don't think of it as gym time, I think of it as study time. That helps a lot.
Take it one step, and day at a time. Set realistic goals, and if you fall short one day, try again the next.
As I was reading your blog, I thought immediately, "Me too...." and looked at the M&Ms on my desk. *sigh* It's the combination that works, eating right and exercise. There's no magic cure or magic pill. We have to want it enough and it's work. Do you want it enough... that's the question you need to use to motivate yourself.
My advice is really to take it one day at a time. Don't worry about yesterday's choices or tomorrow's pitfalls. Just concentrate on today.

Hi! I just recently found your blog and wanted to say how cool it is too see others blogging about weight loss too! I just recently started my weight loss blog and I am loving it so far. In the last 9months and 2wks I have lost 147lbs and have the last 32lbs to go. Its deff. a struggle but So worth it. My advice to you on getting back to working out is really focus on what inspires you and what your dirve is. I actually just did a post on that a few days ago and that really helped me to get back in the gym. When u want to no go or quit while your there picture your goals and inspirations and for me at least that was quite the motivator :o). Keep up the awesome blog!
