Promises Made

I went to my doctor yesterday to get a couple things checked out. My blood pressure is barely hanging in there. I’ve been on a super low dose of medication for a few years now and so far that’s been working, more or less. Both, my doctor and I would like to see the numbers a little lower since they are just on the borderline of the high side of normal. For now, he is going to keep me at the same dose as what I am currently taking. It would be lovely to get off all meds, but with a strong family history of high blood pressure it’s very unlikely. In the mean time, he told me to lose 10 pounds and I would see improvement.

Promise,” he said.

Which leads me to this question? How come I’m having such a struggle with the last 10-15 pounds? So far, I’ve dropped 20-25 pounds but lately I lose and gain the same 4 or so pounds over and over For months. Up. Down. Up. Down. It’s been a bit frustrating. I think part of my stall is because I can look at myself in the mirror now and be ok with it. Of course there are things I’d like differently, but I’m a normal human being and not some Hollywood superfreak. I generally feel good about myself and from year ago there’s been a huge difference. A difference that I’m happy with.

So help me my peeps, what can I do to motivate myself to work down those last few pounds? I told my doctor when I see him in 6 weeks, I’d be a few pounds lighter.

Promise,” I said.

You may have to do a deconstruction and reconstruction to figure out why you're holding back... That's just a high-faluting term for figuring it out.

Good luck!

Are you tracking all your food? If not, I would definitely start there - the answer might jump right out at you.
If you are tracking, take a look and see - are you tracking EVERYTHING? Is there a lot of sodium in your diet? Are you eating too little or too many calories?

I truly, madly, deeply believe that if everyone did a Jillians Michael dvd 5 days a week, the entire world would be in great shape. I strongly recommend "No More Trouble Zone."

Or try nowloss.com

You can soooo do this!

I'm in the same boat but alas have more like 30-40 more lbs to lose. Wish I knew how to break the damn but I got nothin'. If I do figure it out soon, you'll be the first to know. Promise.

I dont know if these suggestions will help you at all but when I was getting down to the last few pounds I had to get myself very motivated. I cut out pictures of what i would reward myself with once I got to that weight. I am a very visual person so seeing it made it more real for me. I also tried to cut out as much processed food ad possible and stick to food that was close to its natural state like fruit vegetables etc!! these tips may sound stupid but just trying to help you out!!

I would use that looming doctor's appointment as motivation. Put reminders where you'll see them.

Also: track track track! Track every bite. Be really tough with yourself. Eat as cleanly as you can. It's something I need to do, too.

I gained 4 pounds the month of June, so I hear you! But I know where I went wrong - I ate too many things and didn't work out enough! :D

Hang in there!

Buy a super cute outfit for summer, but one size smaller. If you lose ten pounds, you will fit into it!

I think that that's exactly the reason why we struggle with the last 10 lbs: we're pleased with what we look like in the mirror so that part of the motivation isn't there. Good luck!

One of my big motivators was getting my blood pressure meds reduced or eliminated. What worked for me was making a copy of the prescription and hanging it on my office wall where I had to look at it every day. It definitely helped keep me on track, but it also helped me shift from thinking about this as a size issue instead of a health issue.

Needless to say, when my dosage was halved six weeks later, I had a lot of fun putting that original prescription through the shredder and hanging the replacement!

Good luck!

These are all awesome!! I was thinking a "visionboard"..maybe a challenge is in order?? A PROMISE CHALLENGE? I also think tracking your food and mixing up your workouts are good tools. Are you still working out? If not..do something with a friend..that's what gets me to the gym or walking..the fact that I committed to someone else and the company. It's great that you have lost so much weight!!!
